Viola M. Fights

Viola M. Fights, 86 died Saturday September 30, 2017 at her residence in Jonesboro, Indiana. She was a former Upland and Matthews resident moving here many years ago from Chicago, IL. Viola married Stephen J. Fights III July 23, 1955 at the Upland Pilgrim Holiness Church, he preceded her in death November 15, 2008. She was born May 4, 1931 at Deep River, Iowa to the late Erwin and Edith (Snakenberg) Whitworth. Viola was a 1948 graduate of Marion College (IWU) Marion, Indiana, and also attended Kletzing College, Oskaloosa, Iowa. She had worked for World Gospel Mission. She enjoyed doing crafts of all kinds and sewing, she loved to volunteer at the Grant County Rescue Mission Store in Gas City. She loved her church family at Main Street Wesleyan Church, Jonesboro. She is survived by daughters; Rosina (Bob) Turner, Pensacola, FL Twana (Bob) Krauhs, Missouri City, TX and Christine Fights, Upland, IN and son; Konnie (Janelle) Fights, South Carolina. Son-in-law; Larry Richards, Jonesboro, IN Sister; Helen Bullard, Albuquerque, New Mexico Aunt Velma Wilcox, Iowa and special family member Mary Ware. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son; Palmer Fights and daughter; Margaret Richards. Services for Viola have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Jones-Smith Chapel, 259 N. Main St., Upland, IN 46989. Visitation for Viola will be Thursday October 12, 2017 at Jones-Smith Chapel from 3-7 PM with her funeral service on Friday October 13, 2017 at Main Street Wesleyan Church, 801 S. Main St., Jonesboro, IN at 11:00 AM with Rev. Kenneth Dykhoff officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Cemetery, Upland, IN Memorial contributions may be made to the Grant County Rescue Mission or World Gospel Mission in care of the Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Jones-Smith Chapel P.O.
