Thomas 'Tom' A. Vogel

Thomas Tom A. Vogel, 87, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, in Marion. He was born to the late Albert V. and Mabel M. (Kenefake) Vogel, in St. Marys, OH, on April 16, 1932. Tom was very proud of his German heritage and made several trips to Europe. He graduated from Memorial High School in the class of 1950. He then earned an associates degree in engineering. Tom married Cleta J. (Holtzapple), on April 27, 1952, in St. Marys, OH. Tom courted Cleta in high school and often went out with a horse and buggy on Sunday afternoons together. They were blessed to celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary this year while having lived on the same farm for 57 years. Tom worked in automation design at General Motors for 34 years and was able to retire at age 55. He and Cleta spent 31 winters on Sarasota Bay in Bradenton, Florida. They were blessed to be able to travel many miles together, and he delivered RVs all over the country. He was also an active member of Sweetser United Methodist Church. Tom loved woodworking and built Cleta a special china cabinet. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting, while spending time with family and friends. Tom was a Boy Scout Master and a little league baseball coach. He was a member of the Sweetser Lions Club and Good Sams Camping Club. Tom applied his great engineering skills to many projects at home, one being a car-top pop-up sleeper that the family took camping for years. Tom is survived by his wife, Cleta, Marion; his children, Gregory (Sheila) Vogel, Warren; James Patrick (Sarah) Vogel, St. George, UT; Judy (Perry) Frank, Kokomo; Roger (Sarah) Vogel, Marion; his brother, Ned (Charlene) Vogel, Warsaw; his grandchildren, Erin (Robert) Harlan, Jeff (Mandy) Vogel, Meghan (Josh) Reinhard, Erich Vogel, Ryan (Beth) Frank, Nick (Kristy) Frank, Christin (Joe) Becker, Zachary (Margaux) Vogel, Jacob (Caitlyn) Vogel, and Jessie (Daniel) Swihart; 14 soon to be 15 great-grandchildren, Luci, Londyn, Lily Kate, Lanie, Ryder, Malie Jo, Laila, Isabelle, Tessa, Gillian, Kennedy, Elliana, Miriam and Felix. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Mabel Vogel, and his sister, Betty Silveous. Arrangements for Tom have been entrusted to College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home Cremation Service, 4601 S. Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953, where there will be a visitation on Sunday, September 29, 2019, from 1:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M., with a funeral service beginning at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor David Steinke officiating. Burial to immediately follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Sweetser, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Tom to Sweetser United Methodist Church, 413 N. Main Street, P.O.
