Thomas T. Miller

Thomas "Tom" T. Miller, 79, of Marion, passed away Friday morning, May 6, 2016, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born in Upland, the son of the late James A. and Eva Mae (Wilkins) Miller. Growing up on a dairy farm in Grant County, he was a 1955 graduate of Jefferson Township High School. He graduated from Purdue University, where he majored in agriculture and was a member of the John Purdue Club. He then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, stationed in Vicenza, Italy. On May 29, 1972, Tom married the love of his life, Lamona Detamore, in Upland. She survives. With a deep love of farming and agriculture, he became a member of the Chicago Board of Trade and pursued a career as a commodities broker with offices in Kokomo, Indianapolis, and Agoura, California. He served as president of, both, the Grant County Soil Water Conservation District and the 4-H Fair Board. Tom was known for his love of golf and enjoyed playing in Senior Skins Pro-Am Tournaments throughout Hawaii. A story he loved to share with many, was his opportunity to play and win a Senior Skins Tournament, alongside his son-in-law and Arnold Palmer. He attended First Friends Church, Marion, and Open Door Fellowship, Converse. He was a lifetime member of the Arcana Masonic Lodge, Upland. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Lamona (Detamore) Miller, Marion; four children, Heather (Scott) Kelleher, Indianapolis, Halden Martin, Knoxville, Tennessee, Holly (Joe) Baker, Kamuela, Hawaii, and Hadley (Kelley) Martin, Lenoir City, Tennessee; a brother, Rev. James (Phyllis) Miller, Converse; six grandchildren, Billy Baker, Alexandra Baker, Brooke Martin, Hawk Martin, Graham Thomas Kelleher and Gemma Grace Kelleher; a brother-in-law, Burtis "Sonny" Detamore, Marion; and a sister-in-law, Berta "Sis" Long, Marion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristene Marie Piazza; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Verle Demona Barrett; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill Virginia Detamore.
