Royce Ray Allison

February 4, 1942 — June 11, 2022

Royce Ray Allison, 80, passed away at Colonial Oaks on Saturday, June 11, 2022, after a long illness. Royce was born to the late Joseph and Laura Allison on February 4, 1942. He served in the United States Marine Corps after graduating from Nordly's High School, serving from 1961 - 1964. He then became a nursing assistant at the Marion VA Hospital from 1981 until his retirement in 2007, after 30 years of service. He was also previously employed at Northgate Nursing Home and General Tire. He married Patricia Sutton in 1981 and she survives. Royce was a member of the Fairmount American Legion Post 313. He enjoyed spending most of his time taking care of his wife as well as his grandchildren, who you would have thought were his own kids. He was an avid Colts, Pacers, and Cubs fan, and you could usually find him on his front porch in his Cubbies t-shirt, legs crossed, drinking a Bud Light, and smoking a cigar. Royce is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Brian (Tina Higginbotham) Hartley, Fairmount; daughters, Lynn (Ronald) Davis, Fairmount, Robin (Jason) Gardner, North Carolina, and Tara (Jason) Carpenter, Fishers; grandchildren, Brian James (Samantha) and Jessica Hartley, Zoe Hartisch, Autumn, Ethan, and Lauren Gardner, and Chase and Kincade Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Emily Hartley, Kaylee Hartley-Gary, Keegan and Brookelynn Lloyd, and Aubrey Hartley; brother, Roger Allison, Costa Rica; and niece, Penny Allison. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Laura; nephew, Roger E. Allison, Jr.; maternal grandparents, James and Minnie Dennis; and paternal grandparents, George and Jane Allison. Arrangements for Royce have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, where a visitation will be held on Friday, July 1, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. The Fairmount American Legion Post 313 will be doing a walk through service at 3:45 p.m., followed by military honors and a funeral service, with Pastor Glen Davis officiating. A private burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Muncie at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fairmount American Legion Post 313.
