Rose Marie "Rosie" Spence

April 8, 1942 — May 5, 2022

Rose "Rosie" Marie (Fugate) Spence of Muncie, Indiana, died on May 5, 2022 at Ball Memorial Hospital. One of nine children, Rosie was born in Wausaukee, Wisconsin on April 8, 1942, to the late Robert and Maryann (Whitaker) Fugate. At 17, Rosie met the love of her life, Larry Lee Spence, and they married on December 18, 1959. They spent the next 62 years, entirely devoted to each other. They were truly soul mates and best friends, enjoying many adventures together. They raised their family in Fairmount but later moved to a country home in Jonesboro. There, they spent many years of retirement enjoying the wildlife that played outside their windows, tending Rosie's flower gardens, and watching the birds that she enjoyed feeding. She was always excited when a new type of bird appeared. A few years ago, Rosie and Larry moved to Muncie to be closer to their daughter, granddaughter, and church (i.e. Mount Olive). Rosie had many hobbies and interests, including bowling, hunting and fishing. However, her passion was music. She played guitar and wrote over 150 songs (mostly gospel). However, her true talent was singing. While in Indiana, she played with many musician friends in churches and nursing homes. Until recent years, Rosie and Larry were Winter Texans, and enjoyed their second home in Mission. While wintering in Texas, she organized many jam sessions. She also gave guitar lessons to many friends, old and young. Her lifelong involvement with music resulted in many wonderful friendships. Rosie loved her family greatly and enjoyed feeding them when they returned home for visits. She was a great cook, cooking most meals from scratch. She was a stay-at-home mom, who was dedicated to her children and making life fun for them. She hosted many pool parties for the neighborhood children, and the front door was always open. While she loved her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much, she had a very special connection to her granddaughter, Taylor. Rosie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Larry Spence; daughters, Shari Warren (Mitch) and Shelli Lee (Greg); granddaughters, Taylor Hirst (Jordan), Lindsey Lee, Whitney Lee, Sarah Warren (Ryan); grandsons, Joseph Stembel, and Seth Warren. Great-grandchildren, Kayden Lee, Bryson Lee, and Cash Hirst; Brothers, Wesley Fugate, Lenny Fugate, and Patrick "Arny" Fugate (Diana). She is preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Vincent; brothers, Clifford Fugate (Helen), Edward (Eddie) Fugate, Robert Junior (Junior) Fugate (June); sisters, Louise Gillum (Leroy), and Lucille Mikolajewski (John); sisters-in-law, Sandy Fugate and Margaret Fugate; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Arrangements for Rosie will be held at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
