Ronald L. Slate, 74, of Fairmount, died Friday, October 21, 2022, at Elwood Health & Living.
Ronald was born on February 16, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Harold D. and Glenda Slate. He graduated from Elwood High School in 1966, and then from the Indiana State Police Academy in the early 1980's. Ronald married Madonna L. (Hood) Slate on June 8, 1968. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2019. Ronald was the Chief of Police in Arcadia, Indiana. He had also worked for the county dog pound in Ohio, was a satellite dish installer, and owned a furniture refinishing business. He was a "jack of all trades" and enjoyed working with his hands. He enjoyed reading, fishing, and western movies.
Ronald is survived by his four children, Michael Slate, Eric Slate, James (Heidi) Slate, and Kayla Slate; four siblings, Dean (Pam) Slate, Mel (Jenny) Slate, Harold Jr. (Patricia) Slate, and Vanna Odon; six grandchildren, R.J. Richards, Noah, Elizabeth, Hannah, Leah, and Luke Slate; and Gabriel Wedmore.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery.
