Roger B. Krumel

Roger Benjamin Krumel, 69, of Marion, passed quietly from an extended illness on Sunday, December 3, 2017. He was born in Los Angeles, California, to Roger Benjamin Buell and Margaret Elizabeth Williams. He lived in Gas City, Warren, and Marion most of his life. He graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1966. He also earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ball State University in 1970, majoring in fine art, art history, and metal smithing. He served in the US Army from 1971-1972 and was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He worked at Owens-Illinois in Gas City for several years until he became interested in the tent business. He worked under Clarence Hall at Marion Tent and Awning, the longest running business in Marion, until he bought the company in 1982. He remained there until he retired in the fall of 2017. He was married to Theresa (Bailey) McGhee from 1968-1986. He then married Caroline Hart Krumel in 1998. Roger loved art, tennis, British television, PBS programming, antiques, and tasty pastries. He contributed to the Ball State Alumni Association from the time he graduated and is remembered with a commemorative brick. He shared his love of tennis with his daughters. He collected magic and circus memorabilia as well as Audubon bird prints. He actively supported live theater at the Pulse Opera House in Warren, Indiana, as well as many other city events and activities. He is survived by his daughter, Caroline (Rob) Felver of Willow Spring, NC, and grandchildren, Ryley Felver of Raleigh, NC, Maxwell Felver of Willow Spring, NC, and Bailey Felver, also of Willow Spring, NC. He is also survived by daughter Julianne (Jay) Bragg of Noblesville, IN, and grandchildren, Emma Bragg and Avery Bragg, both of Noblesville. He had two surviving step-children, Judith Boller of Sante Fe, NM, and grandson Jeremy Boller of Logansport, IN, and Joseph Mark Boller of Marion, IN. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Kate (Andrew, deceased) Boller of Marion and grandchildren Cassandra (Nathan) Uhl of Tempe, AZ, Chelsea (Evan) Skiles of Indianapolis, IN, Kale Ricketts of San Diego, CA, and Alexis (Derek) Chelednik of Ridgefield, CT. His surviving siblings include Jim (Kim) Krumel of Indianapolis, IN, Deb (Barry) Herring of Morgantown, IN, Dennis (Elvia) Gould of Fort Wayne, IN, Janice Spenser of Gas City, IN, and Carter (Teri) McNamara of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Caroline, his step-son Andrew Boller, and his parents. The family would like to extend special thanks to Rogers doctors: Dr. Trent Miller, Dr. Helen Fusmire, and Dr. Aliya Noor. The family also asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Caroline Hart Krumel Scholarship Fund through the Grant County Community Foundation. Arrangements for Roger have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services College Park Chapel, 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, Indiana, where a visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Jones officiating.
