Roberta "Betty" L. Jeffrey born June 19, 1925, to the late Webster and Madge (Ruley) Cox in Jonesboro, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024. She grew up on the Cox Family Farm in Jonesboro where she remained a lifelong resident and proudly lived her entire life right there on the same ground where she was born. She leaves behind a large family heritage of "in-laws and outlaws" that have a quick wit, are quirky, and possess a surprisingly clever sense of humor.
Betty was a gentle and unassuming lady who laughed easily and gave her love magnanimously to everyone. A good week for Betty would be one of fair weather that would allow for her to be outside mowing. She loved to mow her grass and we would be remiss if we failed to mention her beloved John Deere!
Betty was inviting and easy going. She had the best young-at-heart quality about her that was often displayed by her orneriness and stubbornness (both solid family traits!). She displayed Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs figurines in her powder room where she always kept Bashful turned around backwards. When asked why, she simply said "because he is shy".
Betty enjoyed a long and well-lived life after her retirement from VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, Marion, Indiana. In fact, she claimed that the 2000's were her favorite decade which coincides with the first ten years after her retirement! She immersed herself into the Jonesboro Historical Society and the Obadiah Jones Cabin historical site where her work can still be enjoyed by others today. She made the best dishcloths, was a hobby coin collector, antique furniture rescuer and rehabilitator, puzzle master, and so much more. Her homemade caramels were top tier and were a coveted and often fought over holiday treat.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Webster and Madge Nondus; siblings, Charles Maxwell, Francis Webster, John Noble, Clara "Margery", and twin brother Robert "Bob" Louis; and son-in-law, Carl Edward Stahl.
She is survived by her children, David Eugene (Rosanne) Jeffrey, Janet Louise Stahl, Joyce Lucile Jeffrey, and Linda Joanne Jeffrey; grandchildren, Brian Lee (Vicky) Jeffrey (favorite grandson) and Kristi Dawn (Brian) Davis (favorite granddaughter); great-grandchildren, Christopher (Sydney), Ashley (Brandon), Damien, Caleb (Ashly), Nolan, Wyatt, and Bianca.
Her departure leaves an unfillable void in our lives, yet we find comfort in the many memories and everlasting love she shared. In her honor, let us remember the past with gratitude, live the present with enthusiasm, and look forward to the future with confidence.
