Robert E. Mccoy

Robert E. McCoy, 84, a former resident of Matthews, Indiana and most recently a resident of Lillian, Alabama, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 25, 2019. He was born in Matthews, the son of the late Carl McCoy Adeline (Cole) McCoy Sells. Mr. McCoy was a member of the First Community Church, Matthews, for many years and after moving to Lillian, he joined the Blue Angel Baptist Church, Pensacola, Florida. Robert proudly served in the United States Army. He was an active member of the Matthews Fire Department and Matthews Lions Club for many years. He retired from the Borg Warner Plant, Muncie, in 1980. Robert enjoyed sports, especially baseball, hunting, fishing, and spending time at the beach. He loved his friends and enjoyed the time he spent with them. His greatest love was for his Lord and his church families. He enjoyed participating in all church activities. Survivors include a daughter, Debra Slater, Lillian, Alabama; a sister, Carolyn Mullenix, Matthews; a sister-in-law, Linda Wright, Indianapolis; four nieces: Nickie (Larry) Smallwood, Defiance, Ohio; Ramona (Don) DeHart, Indianapolis; Cathy Sheets and Melinda Hicks, both of Matthews; and a nephew: Tracy Wright, Indianapolis. Robert was blessed with numerous close friends in Indiana, Alabama, and Florida. He was especially close to Crystal Davis of Matthews, whom he thought of as a granddaughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Patricia McCoy, a son, Dean Slater, and a brother-in-law, Don Wright. A life celebration will be held at Blue Angel Baptist Church on February 10, 2019. Then later in the year another service take place in Matthews, IN, to honor Roberts life and home-going. Arrangements were entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana.
