Richard Dick L. Francis, 89, of Gas City, died Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Wesleyan Health Care. Dick was born on October 18, 1930, in Bradford County, PA, to the late Lee Francis and Bessie Deal. He graduated from Canandaigua High School in 1948, and joined the Navy in 1950. He served our country for four years. Dick was a welder and had worked for Westinghouse Electric, which later became ABB, in Muncie. He was a member of Temple Congregational Church in Marion and was a former deacon. On March 1, 1988, he married Barbara J. Miller and she survives. An active man,he enjoyed golfing at Walnut Creek, boating, playing tennis, being a ham radio operator, and flying planes in his earlier years. He also was a great singer and sang in a barbershop quartet. He also sang with his church choir and a choir in Indianapolis, and with the Mississinewa Valley Singers. Dick is survived by his wife, Barbara, Gas City; son, Jeff (Nancy) Francis, Modoc; step-daughter, Beth Fitzjarrald, Fairmount; sister, Betty Corder,CA; niece, Susan Pfoffer, CA; grandchildren, Sasha, Kris, and Travis Francis, and Megan and Kelsey Fitzjarrald; and great-grandchildren, Cameron, Alex, Xander, and Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Bessie; siblings, Georgia Mae Campbell, Ethel Sickman, and Harmon Red Bath; and his first wife, Carolyn Sue (Reid) Francis. Arrangements for Dick have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., at Temple Congregational Church, 1006 North Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46952, with Pastor Jeffrey Jahn officiating. There will be a time of visiting from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date at Marion National Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses at Family Life Care for their wonderful care of Dick. Contributions made in memory of Dick may be made to Temple Congregational Church.
