Nedra C. Cates-Himelick

Nedra C. Cates-Himelick, 81, went to be with the Lord on December 8, 2021 surrounded by family and friends. Nedra was born on May 24, 1940 in Peru, Indiana to Russell and Rachel (Dailey) Cates. She married Charles (Chuck) Himelick on August 11, 1963 and he survives. Nedra was a 1958 graduate of Sweetser High School. She attended Purdue University where she studied Home Economics. While at Purdue she had a night time radio show in the basement of Cary Quad. Nedra did not know a stranger. She was very loving and loved being around people. She knew someone everywhere she went, including vacationing out of state. She had an amazing green thumb and could get a stain out of anything. Nedra loved to knit and crochet and used her talents to teach other people. Her favorite gift to give was her handmade wash cloths. She collected Hummels and other crafts. She loved to cook and was best known for her famous grape jelly and iced tea. Nedra worked for Marion Community Schools, Dana Credit Union and was sample sales lady at Meijer. She also volunteered at Marion General Hospital for many years. She loved working at Riverview Elementary School, where she helped the students in the cafeteria and was a grandmother to them all. Nedra attended Mount Olive United Methodist Church. Nedra is survived by her husband Charles, son Rodney (Kim), daughter Cynthia Kiser, special adopted son Joe Enyeart, brother Daniel (Karen) Cates, grandson Tyler Himelick and granddaughter Elizabeth Kiser. Arrangements for Nedra have been entrusted to College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953. Visitation will be on Friday December 17, 2021 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Saturday December 18, 2021, there will be an hour of visitation from 10:00 A.M to 11:00 A.M. with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Rob Barton officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Gardens of Memory. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Nedra to Mt. Olive United Methodist Church.
