Meredith "June" James

Meredith "June" James, 91, of Marion, Indiana, was called home at 1:28 p.m., on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Marion Health Hospital. She entered this world on July 13, 1931, in Winchester, Indiana, born to William Marvin and Valma (Derr) Dudley. June married William "Bill" James on July 9, 1949, in Winchester, he preceded her in death on February 12, 2011.


She was a graduate of Winchester High School class of 1949. In her earlier years, June worked at The Rainbow Restaurant and Wick's Pie Shop in Winchester. June and Bill relocated to Marion, when he found employment at General Motors. She mainly worked around the house as a homemaker with a few various retail jobs.


June was very successful with Avon, working with them for 30 years and reaching one of Avon's highest honors in the President's Club. She was also a member of the Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma for 62 years, past guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel 19 Marion, and a member of Sunnycrest Baptist Church.


She was known for her generous and nurturing spirit, but most importantly June was known for her June cakes or grandma June cakes. June also enjoyed crafts, crocheting, and bowling for 30 years. She also became known for June's dish cloths.


June is survived by her two children, Cheryl (Lynn) Anthony, and David (Ellen) James, both of Marion; daughter-in-law, Lori James, of Marion; sister, Barbara Stanton, of Buford, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, Bill (Stacy) James, Jennifer (JD Ross) King, Brianna (Andy Jones) Logan, Julie Holloway, Jayna (Stevie) Wheeler, Julie Morgan, Brandon (Jessica) Anthony, Trisha (Brad) Whiteley, April Martindale, Kristen (Noah) LeFavour, and Laura (Will Wortman) James; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, William D. James and Gregory Alan James; two grandsons, Greg Cole and Jason Morgan; and a brother-in-law, Myron Stanton.


A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Sunnycrest Baptist Church, 2172 West Chapel Pike, Marion, Indiana, with Pastor Troy Bishop officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester, Indiana.


Arrangements have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, IN 46953.


Memorial contributions may be made to Sunnycrest Baptist Church.
