Mary Lou Futrell

Mary Lou Futrell, 92, passed away in her home on Friday, January 6, 2023. Her last day was a good day in her words, getting her hair done, seeing her family and visiting her friends.


Mary Lou was born to Cipriano and Maria (Correa) Velasquez in Elgin, Illinois, on December 15, 1930. She graduated from Fairmount High School and married Jerry Futrell Sr. on January 12, 1952. They lived in Marion and raised their children around the corner from her family home. Mary Lou retired from RCA and later worked at Lowe's after her husband had passed.


Mary Lou was a devoted family woman and loved being with her grandchildren. As her family grew, she would make weekly dinners to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She hosted the Annual Velasquez Family Reunion for many years lilke her brother Raymond did. She was a devout Catholic whose faith was very important to her and rarely missed Mass.


Mary Lou is survived by children Peggy (Mike) Wagener, Penny (Jimmy) Carl, Jerry (Cindy) Futrell Jr.; grandchildren Amy (James) Loftin, Jody (David) Gilbert, Nathan (Sara) Althouse, Sarah (Andy) Lewis, Stacey (Joe) Turner, Ashley (Judd) Havens, Adam (Stephanie Morris) Althouse, Matthew Hughes, Kristen (Vincent) Edwards, Josh (Lendsey) Wagener, and Brandon Wagener; 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; siblings Mary-Ellen Carmin, Danny (Ruth) Velasquez, and sisters-in-law Mary Ellen Velasquez, Janice Velasquez and Mary Jane Futrell; along with several nieces and nephews.


Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, parents Cipriano and Maria, daughters Debbie Mitchell and Robin Althouse, siblings Albert (Carmin) Velasquez, Pete (Phyllis) Velasquez, Lupe (Gloria) Velasquez, Raymond Velasquez, Josephine (Fred) Knight, Mercedes Velasquez, Connie (Harold) Gause, and Larry Velasquez, and her in-laws Frank and Opal Futrell, Joe (Joann) Futrell and Glenn Futrell.


Arrangements have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953. Visitation will be Wednesday January 11, 2023 at St. Paul Catholic Church 1031 West Kem Road, Marion, Indiana 46952 from 11:00-1:00 with a funeral mass immediately following. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park after services.


Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul in Mary Lou's honor.
