Mary E. Armes

Mary E.Armes, 90, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at her Marion, Indiana residence. Mary was born at home in Richmond, Indiana on December 19, 1926, daughter of the late, Louis Herbert and Lucy Cleo (Brown)Zurwell. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1945 and worked atMcCrorysDime Store to save money to go to nursing school. She attendedEarlhamCollege in Richmond, Indiana and the nursing program at Reid Memorial Hospital where shelivedandworkeduntil graduation in 1949, married and moved to Jonesboro, Indiana. Mary was a registered nurse and retired from Marion General Hospital in 1991. She had also been a nurse at DANA and also did home nursing. Mary attended the Pilgrim Holiness church from 1949 until they merged with the Wesleyan Church and was a member ofWestviewWesleyan Church until her death. Mary was a 4-H leader for 5 years and was a Purdue Extension sewing teacher as well as being a member of the Eagles Aerie #227, Parents With Out Partners, Archeology Club, and the Wabash Canal Club. She enjoyed sailing with her friend and going to local concerts. Mary played the violin and wasan excellent cakedecorator makingmany wedding cakes for family and friends. Mary is survived by son,ElrieArmes, Jonesboro, daughters; Diane Reece, Marion, Darlene (Kent)Jackman, Toledo, Ohio, and Christine ElaineArmes, Jonesboro. 10 grandchildren; Melissa (Dennis) Sample, Angie (Bryan)McDaniel, MaryLisenbee, JasperLisenbeeIII, William (Karalynn) Brown, JonathanJackman, Christine (Weston) Richards, JessicaLisenbee,IsaacJackman, and HannahJackman. 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Richard, Leo, and ConradZurwell, sister,IndaBlose, son-in-law, Delmer Reece, and daughters-in-law; Yvonne TrudyArmesand BarbaraArmes Arrangements have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel ofArmes-HuntFuneral Home and Cremation Service, 4601 S. Western Ave, Marion, Indiana where the family will receive friends on Sunday, November 122017 from 2-6 PM and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
