Mary Davis

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary M. Davis, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life on December 25, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on December 12, 1934, Mary lived a life filled with love, dedication, and a deep connection to her community in Matthews, Indiana.

Mary proudly served the United States Postal Service for over 25 years, delivering not just mail but a sense of connection to those she served. She was a graduate of Gaston High School and carried the spirit of her education into her work and life. A devoted member of the First Community Church in Matthews, Mary found joy and fulfillment in her faith and the relationships she nurtured within her congregation.

A true lover of nature and companionship, Mary delighted in tending to her flower garden, where she found peace watching the hummingbirds flit from bloom to bloom. Her creative spirit came alive through sewing, and she cherished the time spent with her beloved dogs. The laughter and memories made during countless girls' trips with her daughters, Dona Coons and Jayetta Embry, and her daughter-in-law, Joyce, added richness to her life that she treasured deeply.

Mary is survived by her children, Dona, Jayetta, and Jimmy Davis; her sister, Carol Lewis; her sister-in-law, Donna Rhinehart; and five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. All who knew her will remember her warmth, kindness, and the quiet strength she shared with everyone around her.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Davis; parents, James and Sarah Rhinehart; sons-in-law, Gabe Coons and Jayme Embry; daughter-in-law, Joyce Davis; sisters, Josephine (Harley) Bole, Hazel Johnson, Donna (Willis) Boan; and brothers, George Rhinehart, Robert (Betty) Rhinehart, and Lawerence (Anne) Rhinehart.

Arrangements for Mary have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 North Main Street, Upland, Indiana 46989, where a visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Joe Ruberg officiating. Burial will take place at Matthews Cemetery.

We invite all who knew Mary to come together in remembrance of her life, her unwavering spirit, and the legacy of love she leaves behind. In the hearts of her family and friends, Mary's memory will forever bloom, much like the flowers she nurtured in her garden.
