Martha M. Stair

Martha M. Stair, 88 of Fairmount died Friday March 12, 2021 at University Health Care Center in Upland, Indiana. Martha was born in Fairmount Township, Indiana on March 5, 1933, one of seven children born to the late Clarkson A. and Mary M. (Arnett ) Holloway. Martha graduated from Fairmount High School in 1951 and received her elementary education degree from Marion College (IWU) Marion, Indiana in 1955. Ira D. and Martha were married in Gas City on August 7, 1955. They celebrated 56 years together before Ira's death on January 17, 2012. Martha was a substitute teacher for Mississinewa and Madison-Grant School districts from 1969-1999 and a daycare worker for three years at Lakeview Christian School Daycare. She attended Southside Wesleyan Church in Gas City. Martha enjoyed genealogy and published 3 books on the Stair, Holloway, and Renbarger families. She also enjoyed cross stitch, attending events at the Marion Senior Center, and attending the Fairmount Wesleyan Women's weekly Bible study. She was a member of Kingsley WCTU and was the Farm Bureau Pet and Hobby leader for many years. Martha is survived by her seven children; Jerry D. (Sheryl) Stair, Fairmount, Russell D. (Connie) Stair, Jonesboro, Mary F. (Doug) Drown, Fairmount, Sally E. (Rod) Perry, Jonesboro, Priscilla A. (Greg) Smith, Bluffton, Joseph C. Stair, Spring Arbor, MI, and Thomas E. (Micheal) Stair, Indianapolis. sister, Elsie Clark, Zephyrhills, FL and sisters-in-law; Norma Holloway, Marion, IN, and Chris Holloway, Marion, 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers; Alvin (Vera Belle), Joseph, Jack, and Harry (Carol) Holloway, sister, Esther (Frank Payne and Claude Canard) Canard, and brother-in-law Alfred Clark, granddaughter, Melissa McClimans-Hathaway. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. Services for Martha will be held at the Southside Wesleyan Church, 310 E. S. "E" Street, Gas City, Indiana Monday March 22, 2021 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Brent Miller officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 - 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Southside Wesleyan Church in care of the funeral home.
