Martha F. Matchett

ELWOOD, IN - Martha F. (Hiatt) Matchett, 93, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at the Elwood Health and Living Nursing Home, following an extended illness. She was born on August 5, 1927, in Elwood, the daughter of Wilbur and Mable (Florea) Hiatt and resided in Elwood most of her life. Martha graduated from Summitville High School in 1945. She married Max Matchett on July 25, 1948. She worked at GM Delco Remy Division for 30 years and retired in 1983. Martha loved to travel and had a special place in her heart for Lake Tippecanoe, where she and Max spent summers. They spent countless hours welcoming family and friends into their homes for game nights, delicious meals, and fellowship. Martha was most famous for having a home remedy for nearly any ailment. She cared deeply for her family and will be dearly missed. Survivors include her brother, Dean Hiatt; several nieces and nephews; of special mention: niece, Mary Ann (Randy) Williams of Elwood and niece, Becky (Allan) Matchett of Elwood. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Max Matchett; sister, Marjorie (Hiatt) Matchett; brother, John Hiatt; and nephews Allan and Melvin Matchett. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria First Baptist Church.
