Lois K. Hinkle

Born Lois Katherine Young in Marion, Indiana, she married Mark L. Hinkle, Jr. in 1947. Through the years, they lived in many states including Tennessee, Maryland, Illinois, Alaska, New York, and Massachusetts, returning to Marion in 1967. Lois worked for Marion Community Schools as manager of the Resource Center for 25 years. In retirement, Lois volunteered for 10 years at the Marion General Hospital Emergency Room. She loved taking care of all of the people she met. She taught Sunday School for many years at the First United Methodist Church in Gas City, Indiana. And was a member of the YMCA for many years, especially enjoying water aerobics. Recently, she authored children's stories featuring Sam the Lamb. Her best friend for the last 12 years was Willis Fisher. They had been friends for over 65 years. They loved eating at McDonald's and going to Matter Park, spending every day together talking, reading, watching TV, and doing Bible Study. She loved spending time with her son, Mark and daughter-in-law, Sandie; daughters, Beverly and Liz and son-in-law, Troy; and grandsons Tyler and Trevor. Her favorite times were when the family could all be together. For many years, Mark made a yearly visit from Massachusetts. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mark; and her brothers, Walt and Don Young. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 259 N. Main St., Upland, where a visitation will be held from 11 am - 1 pm, Friday, May 21, 2021. The funeral service will be at 1:00 pm with Pastor Dustin Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grant County Rescue Mission, Marion, or The Red Barn Youth Center, Upland.
