Linda Lou Rukes, 79, of Muncie, formerly of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday June 25, 2021, at Miller's Merry Manor in Hartford City. She was born on November 14, 1941, in Terre Haute, to Byron Walker and Beatrice (Harms) Walker Penna. Linda married the love of her life Clovis "PeeWee" Rukes on June 25, 1960, which was exactly 61 years from the date of her passing. Linda spent most of her life in Terre Haute, but also lived in Maine, New York and Muncie. She attended St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and graduated from Garfield High School and attended ISU. She worked at Columbia Records and Walker Electric Company. Linda enjoyed roller skating, camping, being neighborly, running errands, decorating and planning for the Christmas season and working in her yard. Most of all she loved spending time with and attending to her family and friends. Throughout her lifetime she was dedicated to her animals, most recently her cat of 3 years. She was an awesome wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Judith Crabb and Valerie Walker; step-father, Paul Penna; her step-mother, Dorothy Walker. Survivors include her husband, Clovis "PeeWee" Rukes; daughter, Diana (Kemuel) Rukes Badger; grandchildren, Lindsay (Seth) Badger James; Hannah (Justin) Badger; and Braya Badger; great-grandchild, Emberly James; brother, Greg Walker; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her lifetime friends, Janet and Forrest Bevis of Port Orange, Florida. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff and nurses of IU Ball Memorial Hospital and Miller's Merry Manor, for her care at the end of her life. As per Linda's request, a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 259 N. Main St., Upland.
