Leonard "Dale" Scheidt

Leonard Dale Scheidt, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, in Blackford County due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

A longtime resident of Upland, Indiana, Dale lived in the same home for over 60 years. Though small, he adeptly expanded his house as needs arose. Music was a significant part of his life; he played the bass guitar and accordion and participated in jam sessions with various musicians, performing across several counties, including Grant, Miami, Howard, Blackford, and Delaware. An enthusiast for adventure, he enjoyed riding a three-wheeled motorcycle that he and his son converted from a two-wheeled model. Additionally, he had a passion for building and flying model airplanes, showcasing his many talents.

Born on June 6, 1941, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Leonard and Geneva (Guerin) Scheidt, Dale grew up as a farm boy, milking cows on the family farm in Sims, near Swayzee. After graduating from Swayzee High School, he proudly served his country in the military and exhibited a strong work ethic throughout his life.

On June 11, 1961, Dale married Carolyn Miller in Upland, who preceded him in death on November 18, 2018. He dedicated 31 years of service to General Motors in Marion, Indiana, where he famously took a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch every day.

Dale is survived by his children, Leonard Dale "L.D." (wife Loree) Scheidt of Matthews and Lucinda Linder of Marion; grandchildren Anthony (Stacey) Scheidt, Jakob Scheidt, Echo Scheidt, and Tawni Planalp; great-grandchildren Breydon and Alexus; a brother, Dennis Scheidt; a great-great-grandchild, Kharmen Zapata; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Nina Krumm.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolyn and daughter, Kartrina

Services for Dale have been entrusted to the Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Jones-Smith Chapel, located at 259 N. Main St., Upland, IN 46989. The family will receive friends and family on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home, with the funeral service scheduled for Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery in Marion, Indiana.
