Lenora J. Alter

Lenora J. Finley Alter, 87, went to her eternal home after battling illness for many years with unwavering faith, quiet dignity and unending grace. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and caring grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived her life by the principle If you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all and was a role model to all who knew her. Lenora was born on March 2, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri, daughter of the late James O. Finley and Charlotte D.Knight and passed away on July 8, 2019, at her daughters home in Fairmount, Indiana. Lenora graduated from St. Pauls High School, Marion, Class of 1950 where she was the Salutatorian and attended St. Marys Academy of Notre Dame. She married Frank P. Alter, Jr. on June 21, 1952. He preceded her in death. Lenora was employed by Custers Last Stand and retired from Marion Community Schools where she worked as the Learning Center Coordinator and Classroom Teachers Aid. Lenora was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church where she was a Past President of the Altar Rosary Society. Lenora loved children and devoted her life to raising her children. She received the St. Annes Medal, an award presented to adults working with national organizations serving Catholic girls. She was a Girl Scout troop leader for several years, worked with the Boy Scouts, Lincoln Youth Baseball, Jobs Daughters and volunteered many years as Room Mother for one of her childrens classes. She was also a member of Nu Beta Chi Sorority. Favorite pastimes included playing the piano, reading and listening to audiobooks, crocheting, playing Solitaire Checkers on her iPad and spending time with her Great-Granddaughter Charlotte. Lenora is survived by daughters, Andrea Alter Dunn (Sidney) and Dorinda Alter; sons, Jeffrey Allen, Joesph Alter (Kay) and William Paul Alter (Denise); grandchildren, Victoria Dunn Meeks (Nathan), Marion, IN Katie Troilo (Matt), Milwaukee, WI, Christi Tyler (David), Marion, IN Jeffrey Alter (Priscilla), Marion, INTodd Alter (Whitney), Yigo, Guam Kyle Alter (Lindsey), Marion, IN; great-grandchildren: Charlotte Meeks,Ella Tyler, Eva Tyler, Cash Alter, Raegan Alter, Brody, Parker, and Landon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lenora was preceded in death by, Frank Alter, husband, Frank O. Alter, son, Charlotte Knight, mother, Jimmy Finley, father, Allen Finley, brother David Scaletta, John Castillo, Tom Aguilar Jim Aguilar, Nephews, Becky Ladwig, niece, five sisters-in-laws and four brothers-in-Laws. Services for Lenora will be on Monday, July 15, 2019 at the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11 AM - 1 PM with the funeral service at 1 PM with Pastor Jeff Timmons and Nathan Meeks officiating. Burial will be at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion. Memorial contributions may be made to Family Life Hospice in care of the funeral home.
