John M. Small

John M. Small, 91, closed his book on this life on February 25, 2018. John was born in Tipton County to Philip and Halcie (Teter) Small who preceded him in death. They moved to Fairmount in 1942 and John graduated from Fairmount High School in 1944 after which he was drafted into the Army and proudly served in occupied Germany. After his tour with the Army he returned to Fairmount and married Carol Ricks in 1951, she survives. John enjoyed this gift of life to its fullest. He was truly a good steward of the land and farming. Gardeningwas his passion. John faithfully attended and supported Fairmount Baptist Church. He was a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a 70-year member of the Fairmount American Legion, and a member of Deercreek Conservation Club. John Is also survived by his sister Carolyn along with son John Lynn (Sue), daughter Michelle (Joe) Wells, and youngest son Philip (Holly), in addition to grandchildren Michael (Jody) Small, Johanna (Steve) Kikendall, Ashley Motia, Carrie Wells Jenna Donaldson, and Jama (Craig) Casselman, and great grandchildren Layla Kikendall, Sophia Small, and Memphis Rains. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Cleo, Gladys, Lola, Marilyn, Edith, Imogene, and brother Bill. Funeral Service for John will be Thursday March 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Fairmount Chapel, Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN with Rev. Mick Simpkins officiating, interment at Park Cemetery, Fairmount, IN The family will receive friends Wednesday February 28, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial Contribution are to the Fairmount Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
