John D. 'Jd' Liston

John D. JD Liston, 60, died Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at his Fairmount residence surrounded by family and friends. For the last several years, JD bravely fought Muscular Dystrophy and later, melanoma cancer. JD was born in Marion, Indiana on February 8, 1959, to William E. Liston and Nancy O. (Stewart) Miller. He was a 1978 graduate of Madison-Grant High School and attended Indiana Vocational Technical College for classes in welding and automotive. He loved all things farming which led to a variety of work opportunities as a fertilizer service operator, grain hauler and most recently, a chicken rancher. For 10 years, JD worked for the Gough family as a farmhand. JD was a faithful member of Fairmount Wesleyan Church, where he served in various capacities and most notably, as the Official Hog Roaster for special events. He proudly served the community as a volunteer Fairmount Firefighter for 33 years and Medic 7 Responder for 15 years. JD loved tractors, enjoyed woodworking and road trip adventures. He never met a stranger and easily made friends with anyone who crossed his path. He had an ability to connect with the young and old alike, often making lifelong friends. Above all, he was a kind and generous man who loved the Lord and was a loyal friend to all. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Janet (Hiers) Liston. They were married on August 14, 1982. Also surviving are his parents, Nancy (Dick) Miller, siblings Keith (Susan) Miller, Kevin (Tammy) Miller and Beth Fitzjarrald, all of Fairmount, Dianne (Trey) Loftin, Mobile, Alabama and Connie Thrasher. Nephew and nieces, Bryce and Brenna Miller, Katie, Emma and Laura Loftin, and Megan and Kelsey Fitzjarrald; dear friend, Scott Sovern and the brotherhood of firefighters from the Fairmount Fire Department. He is preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents, Ancil and Velma Stewart, father and mother-in-law, Dwain and Evelyn Hiers, and brother-in-law, Daryl Hiers. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 2-6 PM. A Celebration of Life service will be on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Jeff Luedtke officiating. Burial will be at Park Cemetery, Fairmount. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairmount Fire Department or the Madison-Grant Nutrition Service for the lunch program.
