Jerry Marvin Wood, 83, of Gas City, Indiana, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 11:22 a.m., on Thursday, October 27, 2022. He entered this world on May 4, 1939, in Marion, Indiana, born to Howard and Martha (Himelick) Wood. Jerry married Victoria Hensley on May 13, 1966, she preceded him in death on January 21, 2021.
He was a graduate of Jefferson Township High School and attended Ball State University. Jerry served as a veteran of the United States Army, where he played trumpet in the military band. His love for music did not end there, as he was responsible for directing the orchestra at Westide Assembly of God, and played on the worship team at Lighthouse Assembly of God. Jerry was an avid man of the word of God, and was a member of both churches, playing his trumpet until the age of 75. At Westside Assembly, he taught several Youth Sunday School classes. Jerry would study and read his Bible faithfully, as he loved the word!
Jerry was a member of the Deer Creek Conservation Club. He competed in several IPSC shooting tournaments. Jerry also loved to ride his Harley. He owned several over the course of his life and rode until he could not anymore.
He is survived by his two children, Cheryl (Doug) Marley, of Greenwood, Indiana, Paula (Jerry) Gallaway, of Upland, Indiana; three grandchildren, Malcolm Kalugyer, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rachel (Tony) Beaman, of Greenwood, and Tyler (Elizabeth) Gallaway, of Marion; four great-grandchildren, Emma Beaman, Nathan Beaman, Miles Beaman, and Leona Gallaway; and two brothers, Thomas Wood, of Huber Heights, Ohio, and David (Joyce) Wood, of Upland. In addition to his loving wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mark (Julie) Wood; sister, Susan Wood; and sister-in-law, Toni Wood.
