Janet Lou Carter

Janet Lou Carter, 88, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday morning, August 9, 2022. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on August 26, 1933, the daughter of the late Robert and Frances Johnson. Janet graduated from Marion High School in 1951. She married Leland D. Carter on June 27, 1975, and he preceded her in death on April 14, 2019. Janet was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Matthews for over 60 years. She taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was very involved in church, being a part of the women's prayer group, helping with the music (she was a very talented violinist), and teaching Bible study. She worked at Essex Wire in quality control until she retired in the 70's. Survivors include her sons, Michael (Cindy) Glass, Patrick Glass, and Timothy (Angie) Glass; step-sons, Dennis (Judy) Carter and Michael (Wanda) Carter; step-daughters, Diane (Gary) Elliott, Karen (Tom) Richards, and Lesa (Jeff) Hawkins; brother, Charles "Chuck" Johnson; grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Aaron, Sammy, Ryan, Jenny, Adam, and Cory Glass; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Frances; husband, Leland; son, Jeffery Glass; sister-in-law, Janice Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Rosa Glass. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 North Main Street, Upland, Indiana, where a visitation will be held on Saturday, August 13, from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Gina Krause officiating. Burial will take place at Matthews Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 36, Matthews, Indiana 46957.
