Jane Ann Kohlmorgen

May 4, 1932 — January 12, 2023

Jane Ann (Macadam) Kohlmorgen, 90, Fairmount Indiana, passed away peacefully, 7:30am at her home. Jane was born in Marion, Indiana to Howard and Ruth Macadam, on May 4, 1932. Jane graduated from Marion High School in 1950. She furthered her education graduating from Hillsdale College in 1954 with a degree in Education and later from Ball State University with a Masters degree in Education. Jane touched the lives of many students. (she referred to her students as "her kids") Jane initially taught in Marion. Jane also taught and was a Guidance Counselor in the Madison-Grant School system for 32 years. After retiring from school, Jane worked for her son, Kurt and daughter-in-law, Anne at Peerless Printing and Office Supply.

A blind date by friends in common, led Jane to meet Ernie Kohlmorgen. Jane and Ernie were married on August 14, 1955 and had two sons, Kurt and Kim. Ernie preceded Jane in death in March of 2014. Also preceding Jane in death were her parents, a brother Chester Hicks, and a sister Patricia Hiatt.

In addition to teaching, Jane and Ernie farmed. After an initial adjustment period, Jane, (a city girl), grew to love the farm. The Kohlmorgen farm was a great place to raise a family. The farm community provided Jane, Ernie, Kurt and Kim with amazing neighbors and friends. Jane was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Jane could always be seen at all sporting events that Kurt and Kim participated in and later her grandchildren's events.

Jane enjoyed yard work, reading, watching White Sox and Colts games, helping her kids, grandkids and a dog or two. Jane and Ernie loved traveling with cousins. She served on community boards (Community Foundation, Marion-Grant County Senior Center and Via Credit Union) Jane and Ernie attended GraceCommunity Church.

Survivors include her sons Kurt (Anne) Kohlmorgen, Marion, Indiana; Kim (Cindy) Kohlmorgen, Fairmount, Indiana; Grandchildren: Kyle (Angela) Kohlmorgen, Tampa, Florida; Kasey (Ben) Davis, Anderson, Indiana; Kirby (Amy) Kohlmorgen, Brooklyn, New York; Kate (Andrew) Mercker, Huntington, Indiana; Kelsey (Bailey) McCord, Elwood, Indiana; Great-Grandchildren: Walt Kohlmorgen, Ike Kohlmorgen, Jillian Davis, Lauren Davis, Drew Mercker and on the way, baby girl Mercker; Nieces: Teresa Sykes and Lisa Kriegbaum.

Jane loved her life and home and was fortunate to be able to stay at home during the last difficult years of life. Her ability to stay at home wouldn't have been possible without the love and care from many people. Jane's family would like to especially recognize Annette Lamb and Amy White for care provided that allowed Mom to remain at home.

Many organizations and groups were important to Jane. None more than students and seniors. In lieu of flowers, Jane's family has requested donations be made to the Jane Kohlmorgen Scholarship fund, (c/o Via Credit Union, 4505 South Adams St., Marion, IN 46953), and the Marion-Grant County Senior Center, (503 South Gallatin St., Marion, IN 46953).
