Jane Ann Dilly

Jane Ann (Christy) Dilly, of Matthews, passed away September 26, 2023, at the Waters of Hartford City after a brief illness.

Jane was born November 21, 1946, in Marion, to the late Albert and Lucile (Careins) Christy. When Jane was 11 years old, she was with her family on vacation in Chicago, Illinois. They stopped at McDonald's and while Jane was ordering, a knife came from the kitchen and struck Jane. She was at a local hospital for 5 days and had 17 stitches. This was a story told many times by Jane. She graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1964.

On March 19, 1967, Jane married Robert "Bob" Dilly in Matthews. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2021.

Jane worked a total of about 10 years at Taylor University in the Dining Commons. She was a homemaker and could be found in the kitchen baking pies or anything sweet. She always had a stash of Hershey Bars in the house.

She also had a golfcart that she would drive around Matthews, sometimes with all the grandkids on it!

Jane was involved with the Epworth United Methodist Church her whole life, as was her mother and grandmother, Inez Careins. She was close with her family and enjoyed going to the Mill Street Inn in Gaston on Thursdays for the cousin's get-together.

She played euchre for 60 years and also enjoyed playing Mexican Train, UNO, and Pass the trash with her grandkids. And if she won, she would say "I'm too sexy for my bod."

Jane is survived by her children, Gary (Melisa) Dilly of Matthews, Roger (Kristie) Dilly of Yorktown, and Karen (Scott) Wohlfarth of Matthews; grandchildren, Zach, Kyle (Hazel Moore), and Lacey Dilly, Courtney (Caleb) Swain, Kayla (Luke Thomas), and Kelsey Dilly, and Eva, Owen, Lily, and Roman Wohlfarth; great-grandchild, Branch Swain; step-grandchildren, Conner and Addie Belt; siblings, Phil (Kathy) Christy, Susan (Ted) Cheesman; special friends, Mary (Doug) Spence, Linda Jones, Shirley Biggs, Stephanie (John) Hale, and many 1964 classmates; special nurse, Alysha Conwell; 27 first cousins and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and nine cousins.

Arrangements for Jane have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 North Main Street, Upland, Indiana 46928, where a visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Matthews Cemetery.
