James E. Roberts

James E. Roberts, 85, Marion, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, August 11, 2021, in his residence. He was born in Albany, Kentucky on May 30, 1936, the son of the late Ester and Ella (Sells) Roberts. He married the love of his life, Susie Groce on July 19, 1958 in Livingston, Tennessee. James had been employed with General Motors, Marion, for 31 years before his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge, Valley of Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, the Mizpah Shriners and the Local UAW #977, Marion, and the CPC Sympathy Club. He attended Epworth United Methodist Church, Matthews and enjoyed hunting rabbits with his hounds and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. James had a good sense of humor until the end. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Susie Roberts, Marion; children: Jerry (Kirsten) Roberts, Marion; and Lisa (Mark) Atkinson, Upland; grandchildren: Derek (Kay) Roberts, Yorktown; Dana (Jesse) Beals, Bloomington; James Roberts, Upland; Donovan (Jordyn) Elliott, San Antonio, Texas; and Luke (Kristen) Elliott, Marion; great grandchildren: Brody, Deegan, Brynley, Abilene, Keagan, Presley, and Ella. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Willie Roberts; and three sisters: Mary Roberts, Ethel Thrasher, and Izora Stover . Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 259 N. Main St., Upland, where a visitation will be held on from 11 AM - 1 PM, Monday, August 16, 2021. The funeral service, beginning with Masonic Rites, will be at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Brian Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson Cemetery, Upland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children, Chicago.
