Howard I. Swaim

Howard I. Swaim, 94 1/2, of Fairmount, Indiana died Wednesday, June 12, 2024 and was reunited with his Lord and Savior.

Howard was born in Marion, Indiana on January 10, 1930, son of the late Elmer and Blanche (Mart) Swaim. He graduated from Fairmount High School in 1948. A hardworking man, Howard farmed from a young age, was the owner of Swaim's Top Soil for 32 years, and of Swaim's Trout Fishing in the 80's. He built the Mississinewa Ridge subdivision in 1996, worked for Essex Wire for 14 years. He did not officially retire until he was 83. Howard married Charlene Leslie on September 10, 1975. She preceded him in death on February 1, 2020. Howard knew Charlene would be waiting for him in Heaven and he looked forward to being reunited with her. He said his biggest mistake in life was not going to Church and knowing the Lord when he was young. "Now I know and understand!" Howard was an IU Basketball, Indianapolis Pacers and Indianapolis Colts fan. Howard enjoyed hunting for arrow heads and looking for treasure with his metal detector.

He is survived by children; Charlotte Swaim, Fairmount, Jeffery Swaim, Fairmount, Susan Howlette, Bunker Hill, Lisa Swaim, Logansport, Julie Miller-Veach, Kokomo, Gladys (Michael) Black, Matthews, Juanita Susie Lamson, Kokomo Paul (Debra) Estep, Cloverdale; nephews, Don (Judy) Wright and Phil (Sandy) Wright both of Fairmount; and numerous grandchildren, great grand-children and great-great-grandchildren.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters, Irene Couch and Pauline Wright.

Services for Howard will be at the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 3-7 PM. Funeral service celebrating Howard's life will be on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 10 AM. Burial will be at Park Cemetery, Fairmount.
