Helen Heiny

Helen D. "Darlene" (Smith) Heiny, 88, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021, in Upland. Darlene was born on July 23, 1932, in Wenatchee, WA, to the late Lynn Edgar Smith and the late Evelyn Frances (Deeter) Goodell. She graduated from Langley High School; Class of 1951. Darlene worked at the Marion Camera Shop, in Marion; Pierce Governor, in Upland; and BRC Rubber Group, in Hartford City. She married the love of her life, George Heiny, on February 23, 1979, he preceded her in death on December 3, 1999. Darlene liked keeping her mind busy by doing crossword puzzles and playing solitaire. She enjoyed gardening her flower beds and sewing. Darlene loved studying the bible. She loved spending time with her family. Darlene will be missed by many. Darlene is survived by her children: Allen (Kathy) James, Marion; Brenda (Robert) Gall, Marion; Kim Liechty, Upland; and Randy (Peggy) James, Gastonia, NC; step-daughter: Jody Hamblin, Gas City; sister: Joan Bowers, Coupeville, WA; grandchildren: Weston (Tricia) James; Jenifer Gall; Lee (Jen) James; Keri (Jack) Hill; Jimmy James; Jill (Jose) Frias; Jeremy (Melanie) Gall; Julie (Jason) Hale; Dacia West; Tabatha and Jamie Heiny; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Heiny; parents, Lynn Edgar Smith and Evelyn Frances (Deeter) Goodell; brother, Jim Smith; and step-son, Kim Allen Heiny. Arrangements for Darlene have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 North Main Street, Upland, Indiana 46989, where a visitation will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 P.M. with Pastor Philip Rogers. Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, please practice safe social distancing while visiting and masks are required.
