George W. Tomlin, 80, died Monday, January 9, 2017 and his wife Dawnetta L. (Dunham) Tomlin, 79, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017 both at their Jonesboro, Indiana home after each had an extended illness. George and Dawnetta were married at Oak Ridge Friends Church and would have celebrated 60 years together on May 4, of 2017. They were introduced by Georges sister Alta and her husband Chester, who was the minister at Oak Ridge at that time. George was born on August 23, 1936 in Adams County, Ohio, sixth of twelve children, born to Thurman Earl andMinneYazelTomlin. He graduated from High School in West Union, Ohio in 1955 and attended diesel mechanics classes. He worked at RCA for 14 years and then as a crane operator and safety director at General Motors in Marion for 31 1/2 years before retiring in 1999. George enjoyed hunting and fishing, was active in baseball, basketball and bowling leagues in his younger years, and was Colts fan. He was an active ArgyllFan when his children and grandchildren played Madison-Grant sports. Dawnettawas born on September 22, 1937 in Marion, Indiana the daughter of Milton Dunham Sr. and Hannazola(Davis) Dunham. She graduated from Fairmount High School in 1955. Dawnettaworked in the office and as a cashier for Standard and Marsh Grocery stores and was a caregiver for many children. She also worked alongside her children gathering and cleaning eggs at Dave Foxes hen house for more than 20 years. She was a hard worker, sewing clothes for family, gardening and canning. In her free time she enjoyed reading and crafts. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, her family was always her delight.Dawnettaattended Fairmount Wesleyan Church. Dawnettaand George raised five children; daughter: Cindy (Steve) Kem, Huntington, IN, sons: Steve (Joan) Tomlin, Randy (Pat) Tomlin, both of Fairmount, IN Andy (Daphne) Tomlin, Uniondale, IN, John Tomlin, deceased, 8 Grandchildren; Amanda(John)Govinand their 3 Children Nate, Emma, and Ali Aaron (Jodi) Tomlin and their daughter Juliet Jeremiah (Kelsie) Tomlin and their daughter Delaney, Ryan Tomlin, Danielle and Brandon Kem, Amy Jones, Austin Tomlin. George is also survived by 4 Sisters; MarthabelleGrooms, Manchester, Ohio, Mary Abbott, Dayton, Ohio, Golda(Neal) Allen, Tampa Bay, Florida, Sue Huntley, WV and 3brothers; Dallas (Bonnie) Tomlin,Bentonville, Ohio, David (Trudy) Tomlin, Manchester, Ohio, Doug (Lee) Tomlin, West Union, Ohio Brother-in-law Jess Carrington, West Union, Ohio and Many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by; his parents, son, John on September 20, 2014, 3 sisters; Nellie Carrington and HelenCluxton, Alta (Chester) Leonard. 2 Brothers; Thurman Tomlin Jr. and Gary Tomlin, Dawnetta is also survived by sister, Patricia (Steve) Cook, Omaha, NE, sister-in-law, Darlene Dunham, Jonesboro, IN, three brothers, Harlan (Evelyn) Dunham, Marion, IN, Thomas Dunham, Wabash, IN and Daniel (Diane) Dunham, Swayzee, IN and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, son John on September 20, 2014 and brother, Milton Dunham Jr. Arrangements are being handled by the Fairmount Chapel ofArmes-HuntFuneral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN Visitation will be on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Funeral Services is Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10 AM with Pastor Dan Biernacki officiating. Interment will be at Park Cemetery, Fairmount, IN Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Grant County in care of the funeral home.
