Genevieve Brookshire

Genevieve Genny Brookshire age 98, often referred to as the Egg Ladyof rural Jonesboro died Sunday January 5, 2020 at her home with her family at her side. Genny was born on April 10, 1921 in Rigdon, Indiana, daughter of the late Sherman and Alma (Fleener) Hipes. She graduated from Fairmount High School in 1940 and attended Wayne University in Ft. Wayne. Genny married Loren N. Brookshire on July 17, 1944. They were one month shy of 67 years of marriage when Loren died on June 22, 2011. Genny and Loren farmed their land raising cattle, hogs, and chickens, she and Rachel would often gather 5000 eggs a day and they had as many as 6700 chickens.Genny was a noodle maker and made a mean green tomato pie that was loved by Loren. Genny also worked as a beautician for 10 years at Elizabeths Beauty Shop in both Fairmount and Elwood as well as working at Hills Department store retiring from farming in 1992. Genny was a 4-H leader, was a member of the Liberty Home Ec. Club, and enjoyed sewing and reading cook books. Genny is survived by her daughter, Rachel (Mike) Colvin, Jonesboro, IN grandsons Joseph (Elizabeth) Colvin, Bremen, IN and Gregory (Megan) Colvin, North Liberty, IN great-grandchildren Nicholas (fiancee Morgan Hudson), Charles, Benjamin, Lincoln, Sydney (Aaron) Piper, Holland, Jackson, London, Harrison, Edward, Hudson, Ireland, Eden, Edison, Tariya, and Crisisya and sister-in-law Esther Hipes of Rigdon. Genny was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-brother, James Hueston, step-sister Mary Ellen Hughes, brothers, Lyndal and Kenneth Hipes, and great-grandaughter, Dakota. Gennys arrangements are in the care of the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where the familywill receive friends Tuesday 5-8 PM at the funeral home. A funeral service will be Wednesday January 8, 2020 at 11AM at the funeral home with Revs. Glenn Blossom and Wesley Brookshire officiating, interment will follow at Park Cemetery, Fairmount, Indiana The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for the care they gave to Genny and the support provided for the family.
