Ethel F. Roth, 92, formerly of Grant County, IN, died December 24, 2023, at her daughter's home in Erie, Colorado. She entered the final stage of her life at peace.
Ethel was born November 21, 1931, to the late Fred and Georgia (Gaddis) Thomas of Fairmount, IN. She was a graduate of Fairmount High School's Class of 1949 and attended business college for six months afterward before leaving to accept a job at Fairmount State Bank. She would spend many additional years working in the banking business for Twin City State Bank (later Star Financial Bank). In 1974, she was recruited to join the Gas City Utilities office, where she retired as office manager in 1995.
In the early years of her retirement, Ethel took on projects to document her family's history, including the compilation of family recipes and a pictorial/written narrative of the Gaddis-Thomas family tree dating to the late 1700s. She was also a seamstress, a lover of crossword puzzles, and a voracious reader. Most of all, she loved her family, her dogs Sophie and Missy, nightly phone conversations with her twin sister Edie, and ice cream - not necessarily in that order 😊.
She is survived by daughter Nancy (Joe) DiLaura, Erie, CO; son Michael (Barbara) Jacks, The Villages of Florida; granddaughters Shelly Barnard (Debbi Larson), Lafayette, CO, and Jennifer (Terry) Pack, New Palestine, IN; twin sister Edith Worl, Marion, IN; great-grandchildren Frances (Devin) Emery, Daphne and David Pack, and Nicholas Barnard Larson; great-great-granddaughter Elaina Emery, and beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ronald Roth, and a sister, Loris Duling.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN. A graveside service will be planned for a later date.
Memorial gifts may be made to the VP Foundation, PO Box 755, Graham, NC 27253, and TRU Community Care, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, CO 80026. TRU's hospice services were an indispensable contribution to Ethel's comfort in the last weeks of her life.
