Elizabeth 'Liz' Sloderbeck

Elizabeth Liz Sloderbeck, 101, of rural Upland, died Monday morning, August 26, 2019, in Bridgewater Rehabilitation Centre, Hartford City. She was born in Monroe Township on January 29, 1918, the daughter of the late Archie and Eva (Smith) Lightle. Liz graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1936. She married Bud Sloderbeck on December 23, 1944. Together they shared nearly 57 years before he preceded her in death on December 17, 2001. Mrs. Sloderbeck, who had lived in Grant County all of her life, was a homemaker and assistant on the farm and apple orchard. She enjoyed baking, gardening, making apple cider, and tending her strawberries. She especially loved sharing those strawberries with family and friends. Survivors include her son: Phillip (Paula) Sloderbeck, Wichita, Kansas; two grandchildren; Caroline and Christina; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers: Wilbert and Donald; and sisters: Alta, Lucy, and Ona. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana, where a visitation will be held from 4:30 -7:30 pm, Friday, August 30, 2019. The funeral service will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the funeral home, with Rev. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will follow in Estates of Serenity, Marion.
