Edward “Gene” Cunningham went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in McKinney, Texas. Gene was born in Prospect, Tennessee on April 9, 1931, to Roy Chester and Martha “Louise” (Birdsong) Cunningham. After graduating high school, he joined the Marines and served in the Korean War.
Gene was a faithful follower of Christ and a member of the Church of Christ for over 70 years. He retired from General Tire in Marion after 39 years. He loved fishing, camping, gardening, watching his western shows, his grandchildren, great & great great grandchildren, reading the bible and being in the outdoors. He was faithful Christian and a true country boy.
Gene is survived by son Ed (Jill) Cunningham, stepsons Doug (Brenda) Davidson, Dan (Cindy) Davidson, Jeff (Tami) Davidson. Grandchildren Chad (Kristy) Cunningham, Corey (Angela) Cunningham, Casey (Craig) Newby, Nicholas (Fabby) Cunningham, Heather (Casey) Brumbaugh and Alisha Cunningham. Step grandchildren Stacy (Louis) Hernandez, Julie (Paul) Kelly, Joanie (Will) Dilbeck, Tiffany (Brad) Murrell, Brad (Lisa) Malott, Stephanie (Brett) Webb, Brent (Stephanie) Malott, Emily (Brandon) Woodard, Drew Davidson, Rhiannon (Craig) Thompson, Alan (Elissa) Davidson, Aaron (Anastasia) Davidson. Great Grandchildren Coy, Haley, Mia, Jay, Trey, Kaiyah, Jordyn, Adelynn, Julianna, Alannah, Haven, Lincoln, Rowan, Rylee, Aria, Deacon, Dakota, Daniele, Sadie, Owen, Gibson, Jack, Mattie, Luke, Kylie, Robert, Andrew, Tanner, Hunter, Colt, Jaidyn, Laiten, Kadence, Landon, Brooklyn, Brady, I’Auni, Cali, Kaylix, TillyAnn, Marley, Soyna, Jax, and Sierra. Great great grandchildren Isabella, Delilah, Camden, Landon, and Madden. Sister Linda Cunningham Gibson, Brother Larry (Sharon) Cunningham.
He is preceded in death by his parents Roy Chester and Martha “Louise” (Birdsong) Cunningham, he married Iris Rebecca “Becky” (Chitwood) Cunningham on April 28, 1951 for 59 years, he married Vennie Geneva Davidson on January 22, 2011 for 8 years, son Coy Phillip Cunningham, daughter-in-law Teresa “Terri” Purdom Cunningham, stepdaughter Janice Davidson Malott, great grandson Peyton Cunningham. Brothers Richard Cunningham and Bill Cunningham, Sister Evelyn Couch.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services at 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953 where a visitation will take place Saturday May 11, 2024 from 8:30-10:00 AM with a funeral starting at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Marion, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Legion of Greentown .
