Dorothy Virginia Miller

Dorothy Virginia Miller (Lewis) ne Myers was Born November 14, 1927, in Frederick, Maryland, and died on December 18, 2021, in Jonesboro, Indiana surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Mary Edna Gwinn and William F Myers. She was married to Lewis L Miller on April 20, 1945, and they were husband and wife until his death on February 15, 1992. They met in April of 1945. At the time Lewis had just been sent home from Port Moresby in the Pacific Theater of World War II suffering from Malaria and Dengue Fever. Dorothy was working at the old Hooks Drug Store in Marion when he came in the store after he had recovered. Dorothy took one look at him and said to her co-workers, "That is the man I am going to marry." She asked him out on the first date and a few days later he said he was going to ask her out for another date and he said, "Will you ..." and she said, "Of course I will marry you!" They knew each other a total of ten days and stayed married for 46 years until his death in 1992. Lewis said, "I married her after such a short time because she was so full of joy". She was. At the age of 90 through Ancestry DNA, she discovered her beloved father, Billy, was not her biological father but certainly he was a loving father. Her biological father was Roger Snoots who died in 1954 in Frederick, Maryland. She also had nine Snoots half-siblings, but it was too late to get to know any of them by the time of the DNA discovery. She was 17 when she got married and had four children by the time she was 22. She was born to be a mother and was adored by her children and grandchildren. Words here can not express what an amazing person and mother she was. We know we were blessed to have her as long as we did. She was living independently in her own home, driving her car, and taking care of her needs up until the end. No matter how much time we had with our mother, it wasn't nearly enough. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Miller and her first grandson, Jerry Lotter, her parents, William and Edna Myers, six siblings, Glen Myers, Paul Luther Myers, James Myers, Ruth Myers Eddington, Viola Myers Cole, and Alice Myers Ricks. Also, she was a predeceased by all of her half-siblings on her biological father's side that she never met, and her beloved dog, Fritz. He was also predecessor by her second husband, John H Lewis, whom she married in 2002 who died in 2012. Surviving are four children, Sherry (Gary) Lotter of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Vicki (Milton) Luoma of Burnsville, Minnesota, Lewis (Tammy Abdon) Miller of Marion, Indiana and Chris (Janie Hamilton) Miller of Noblesville, Indiana, former daughter-in-law and forever friend, Jill Hamilton Miller of Marion, Indiana, and step-daughter: Sharon Lewis Wells of Marion, Indiana, eight grandchildren, Sherry's children, Marc (Nicole Beckman) Lotter, Andrea Lotter (James) Crilly, Lewis (Butch's children) Laurie Miller, Brandie (Cassie) Miller, Amber Miller, Whitney Miller (Jonathan) Cook, and Chris' children, Ryan (Isther Joy Khundongbom ) Miller and Kristi Miller (Keith) Turner. She had 11 great-grandchildren, MacKenzie (Brendan) Baldwin, Spencer (Kelsey) Crilly, Kelsey Crilly, Corbin Crilly, Gabe Miller, Gracie Miller, Dottie Cook, Charlotte Cook, Tess (Billy) Persinger, Claire Miller, Xander Miller, Xenik Miller, Bronte Miller, Will Turner and Zane Turner, and six great-great-grandchildren with two more on the way. She was also survived by her loved and spoiled dog, Bella. Her legacy should be: She loved her children more than anything else in life. She once said if she had known her children were going to get so old, she could have worried less -- but she wouldn't have. She was our fierce advocate and our best ally. Her children are close in age but each with very different personalities, goals, and dreams. Mom celebrated our differences and encouraged us to be who we wanted to be and taught us to accept and love each other. She taught us to love, respect, empathy, and responsibility. What she taught us will leave a legacy in our families for generations to come. The cause of death, which she insisted we add to her obituary, was kidney failure caused by life-long very high blood pressure, which might have been caused by levocardia.
