Don Leslie Garner

Don L. Garner, age 87, formerly of Fairmount, peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at his home in Marion, surrounded by his family.

Born on March 24, 1937, in Fairmount, Don was the son of Eldridge and Martha (Little) Garner. He graduated from Fairmount High School in 1955 and completed a Tool & Die Apprenticeship. He retired as a Manufacturing Engineer from Delco Remy in Anderson, Indiana.

Don married his beloved wife Janet Hoke on March 3, 1956, at her parents' home near Jonesboro, Indiana, and they shared 69 wonderful years together.

An active member of the Bethel Friends Church in Jonesboro, Don served as the former Presiding Clerk of the Indiana Yearly Meeting of Friends and was a board member of Friends United Meeting and Friends Fellowship Retirement Community. He was also a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the former Fairmount Jaycees.

Don had a love for travel, exploring Kenya, United Kingdom, Norway, and visiting 49 states in the US. His hobbies included genealogy, gardening, and landscaping, and he took great pride in maintaining a meticulous lawn and yard.

He is survived by his wife Janet, children Jill Garner, Julie (Edward) Hartman, Karen (Michael) Brown, and Anne (Dennis) Runyan; grandchildren, Ellen Steinke, Elizabeth (Caleb) King, Paul (Cara) Hartman, Bradley (Kristen) Hartman, Hannah (Jack) Hartman-Becker, Mark (Michelle) Hartman, Lee (Kyleigh) Hartman, Ryne (Lacey) Brown, Kristen (Matt) Melendez, April Runyan, Lynn (Marcus) Senter, Dana (Trevor) Clark, and Gail (Ryan) Ransford; great-grandchildren, Theo King, Jesse and Abigail Hartman, Henry Becker, Lillian and Rosalie Hartman, Lucille and Rose Brown, Madison and Parker Logan, and Mateo Melendez, Milo, Lyra, Nonny and Devotion Senter, Simon and Willa Clark, and Abel, Silas, Titus and Miriam Ransford. 

Don is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jack and Jerry Garner, grandson Lucas Brown.

Services will be held at the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located at 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, Indiana. Visitation will be on Friday, February 21, 2025 from 4-8 PM. Funeral service will be on Saturday, February 22, at 10 AM with Pastors David Phillips and Doug Haag officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery, Fairmount.
