Dennis 'Denny' E. Smith

DennisDennyE. Smith, 73, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital. Denny was born on August 1, 1945, to the late Robert and Mildred Smith. He joined the Army in 1965, serving until 1967. He marriedArdeanaLeisure on July 5, 1981, and she survives in Marion. He was a new member of Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, having just moved to Marion last year. Denny enjoyed riding his Honda motorcycle, watching the Cubs play baseball, and IU play Basketball. In the winter, you would almost always see him in his red IU coat. He was very active in his kids sporting activities; whether he was coaching, reffing, or even if it was just shuttling the kids to and from, he was always there. His lawn was his pride and joy; he loved working outdoors making sure his grass was cut and his lawn was clean. Denny is survived by his wife,Ardeana; son, Scott (Michelle) Smith,Crawfordsville; two daughters, MaryGiselbach, Marion, and Jessica (Aaron)Kipfer, Marion; eight grandchildren, Connor and Corbin Smith, Jasmine and JonahGiselbach, and Olivia, Ellie,Addy, andIslyKipfer; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Colton; and four brothers, Larry (Diane) Smith, Muncie, Ron (Sandy) Smith, Pleasant Lake, John (Pat) Smith, Mesa, AZ, and Ed (Sue) Smith, Pleasant Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred; infant sister,MarchetaSmith; and little brother, Randy Smith. Arrangements for Denny have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel ofArmes-HuntFuneral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, where a visitation will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor JoelGearhartofficiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Program.
