David L. Whybrew

David L. Whybrew, 74, died Sunday afternoon, August 8, 2021 in the VA Northern Indiana Medical Center, Fort Wayne. He was born in Marion on December 12, 1946, the son of the late Raymond and Ruth (Shelton) Whybrew. Dave graduated from Taylor University where he enjoyed running Cross Country and Track. He earned his Master's Degree in Education from Clemson University. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his meritorious service as Telephone Switchboard Operator. He married Ruth Howsden on December 22, 1984, in Fairmount. He was a truck driver for Carter Express and enjoyed hobby farming, raising goats and gardening. He attended Upland Community Church. Dave never knew a stranger and would give anyone the shirt off of his back if they were in need. Dave was always on the move, busy finding a way to help perfecting things. He was called to be a missionary, and went on many short trips but his missional work was here in his community. He wished to go back to see Vietnam, but never made it. He was privileged to help his second son find a wife in the Philippines and enjoyed the people more than the scenery. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Ruth, Upland; children: Johnny (Liz) Whybrew; Tim (Anna) Whybrew; Rachel (Josh) Carl; Naomi (Wes) Cathey; Mary Whybrew; Joy Whybrew; Daniel Whybrew; Abby Whybrew; and Max Whybrew; eight grandchildren; two sisters: Jewel Pereira; and Becky (Felix) Delgado; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Whybrew and Uncle Bee. A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM, on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Upland Community Church, 439 W. Berry Ave., Upland. A Memorial Service with Military Rites will be held at 11:00 AM. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 259 N.
