David James

With his loving family and friends by his side, David Brian James, 64, of Marion, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on February 4, 2025. Born on August 29, 1960, he was the beloved son of the late William R. James and Meredith June James (Dudley).

A proud graduate of Marion High School, Class of 1979, David continued his education at Ivy Tech, where he pursued a degree in accounting. On August 27, 1983, he married the love of his life, Ellen (Stoeckmann) James, and together they built a beautiful life, raising their two daughters, Kristen and Laura.

For the past six years, David dedicated his professional career to Via Credit Union, serving as a Credit Analyst. A man of deep faith, he was a devoted member of Sunnycrest Baptist Church in Marion, where he found strength and community.

David was an avid sports fan, with a lifelong love for the Chicago Cubs. His passion for athletics extended beyond being a spectator-he actively participated in fast-pitch softball, bowling, football, golf and coaching. He took great joy in coaching his daughters' softball team and was a dedicated coach at Lakeview Christian High School. He also cherished his time watching young athletes at the PAL Club in Marion.

Above all, David adored his family. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandsons, Lincoln and Hudson, embracing every moment as a fun-loving, kid-at-heart grandfather. He was known for his infectious laughter, generous heart, and ability to bring joy to those around him. In the final chapter of his life, he was blessed to witness the marriage of his daughter Laura, a moment he deeply cherished.

David is survived by his loving wife, Ellen James of Marion, Indiana; his daughters, Kristen (Noah) Lefavour and Laura (William) Wortman, both of Marion; his treasured grandsons, Lincoln and Hudson Lefavour; his sister, Cheryl (Lynn) Anthony; many nieces and nephews; and a host of lifelong friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William R. James and Meredith June James; his brothers, William D. James and Gregory A. James; and his nephew, Gregory J. Cole.

Arrangements for David have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, IN 46953. A visitation will be held at Sunnycrest Baptist Church 2172 W. Chapel Pike, Marion, Indiana 46952, from 11:00am - 1:00pm on Saturday, February 8, 2025. A service will follow with Pastor Troy Bishop officiating. A burial will immediately follow at Grant Memorial Park in Marion, Indiana.
