David H. Shanks

David H. Shanks, 76, died Sunday evening, February 18, 2018, in his residence with family by his side. He was born in Marion on November 12, 1941, the son of the late Lawrence Bud and Edna (Cox) Shanks. He attended Marion High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1959 and served as an Air Traffic Controller, until his discharge in 1963. David was a Jack-of-All-Trades working in many capacities, including truck driver, farmer, commercial fisherman and business owner. He was also an avid racing fan. Mr. Shanks was a member of the Matthews Masonic Lodge #650 and was a volunteer for the VA. David married Theresa Sells on August 4, 1984. Survivors include his wife of 33 years Theresa Shanks; his children Gwen, David, Stacey, Gina, and Traci; step-children, Tonya (Scott) Bragg, Tammy (Robert) Jones, and John Thornburgh; brothers and sisters, Gary (Marg) Shanks, Patty Stebbins, Dennis (Diane) Shanks, Cindy Overmeyer, Tony (Sharon) Shanks, and Bradley (Crystal) Shanks; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Shanks. Memorials may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 36, Matthews, Indiana, 46957 or to Cancer Services of Grant County, 305 S. Norton Street, Marion, Indiana, 46952. Visitation will be from 10am-noon, Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, Jones-Smith Chapel, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana. Masonic Rites will be held at 11:45am and funeral service will be at noon, also at the funeral home.
