Danny Ray Hawkins

Danny Ray Hawkins, 79, died in his sons home in Marion, Indiana, on Sunday, August 19, 2018. Danny came from a large family of 5 brothers 6 sisters. He was born At 4:25am, on April 18, 1939, in Fairmount, Indiana, the son of the late Howard Sr. Esther (Williams) Hawkins. Danny was very stubborn; as a child, he had caught Polio and refused to use crutches to help him walk. He started working at a young age, doing construction with his father. Later on, he worked as a parts man at Evans, Planks Georges Auto Parts. Danny finally worked as an over the road semi-truck driver for Hodges/FirstwayTrucking, where he retired from. He married VirginiaLaShure, in Gas City, Indiana, on October 14, 1967. They had 3 children together, they divorced and then remarried in Marion, Indiana, on November 14, 2002; she survives. Danny enjoyed listening to old time country music, playing his harmonica, WWE Wrestling, was a Colts fan, and he was in the process of learning how to play the banjo; but most of all, he loved to tinker with vehicles. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren great grandchildren. Danny is survived by a son, Gary (BeverleyWetherell) Hawkins a daughter-in-law Laura (Breeden) Hawkins a daughterDonita(Michael)Melick; grandchildren, Jacob (Elsa) Hawkins, JessicaWilbanks, DevinWilbanks, Tiffany Fisher, Travis Fisher,TeAriaTeri Fisher 7 great grandchildren, along with 3 stepdaughters 6 step-great grandsons. Dannys surviving siblings are Catherine Kitty Montgomery, Tommy (Cindy) Hawkins, and a sister-in-law, Linda (Burns) Hawkins; also an aunt Betty Lou (Williams)Netzley. Along with his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his son, Timmy Ray Hawkins, 4 brothers; Howard Jr., Richard, Robert Bobby, and Gerald Lee Hawkins, and 5 sisters; Betty JaneBridenthal, Shirley Bennett, Mary L. Hawkins, Mary A. Johnson Margaret Hawkins. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, August 25, 2018, atArmes-HuntFuneral Home and Cremation Services, College Park Chapel, 4601 S. Western Ave., from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM with a funeral service following the visitation. Pastor Mark Atkinson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Fairmount, Indiana.
