Coach Bob Davenport, passed away on July 3, 2024, in Upland, Indiana, at the age of 91. Born on April 30, 1933, in Oakley, Kansas, to the late George and Rosie (Bunch) Davenport. Bob led an impactful life marked by his dedication to serving Christ, to coaching, and to public speaking.
Bob's journey began at UCLA, where he excelled in football before playing professionally for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His athletic prowess paved the way for a successful coaching career at Taylor University. Known not only for his coaching skills, Bob was also a revered motivational speaker, often discussing the significant role of Christ in his life, inspired by Bill Bright of Campus Crusade.
After his coaching career, Bob founded Wandering Wheels, a Christian cycling program that saw thousands of cyclists, including Bob, traverse the United States and beyond. This included 68 Coast-to-Coast Tours, three Perimeter Tours, several overseas tours, and many shorter tours within the United States. His dedication to this program over 60 years helped people, young and old, to experience God’s love and beauty.
Bob leaves behind his beloved wife, Janech Davenport, and his four children, Dani Williams, Dane Davenport, Daphne Howes, and Dawn Davenport, along with 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, who will miss him dearly. Bob was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara.
