Charles L. Turner, age 85 of Fairmount, passed away on June 21, 2014 at Wesleyan Health and Rehabilitation Center, Marion.
Charlie was born in Williamsburg, Indiana on June 21, 1929 to the late Harry E. Turner and the late Mary Jane (Catey) Turner.
He graduated from Summitville High School in 1947 and later attended Purdue.
He was married to Beverly Isenhart, who survives, on August 14, 1955 in Marion.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired as a security supervisor from General Motors in 1987 after thirty-two years of service. After retirement, he was the owner/operator of Turner's Lanscaping/Earth Incorparated and maintained the athletic fields at Madison Grant High School. Charlie was always active in his church, Bethel Friends, serving at various times as trustee, Sunday school superintendent, and a Sunday school teacher. Always active in his community, he was a member of the Summitville Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Fairmount American Legion, Marion Disabled Veterans of America, and was a volunteer driver for the DAV. In addition to his many church and civic activities, he was an avid gardener, Purdue fan, and tractor enthusiast.
In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, Beverly, he is survived by two sons, Gary (Nan) Turner of Jonesboro and Doug (Kelly) Turner of Fairmount; two daughters, Diana Turner of Marion and Pam (Wayne) Isaac of Greentown; ten grandchildren, Tre' Turner; Jessica (Lee) Evans, Jordan, Riley and Kyle Turner; Jared and Audra Isaac; Brady (Stacy), Bryce and Brenna Turner; great-grandchildren, Aubri, Maeligh, Kindley, and a great-grandson due in October. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert, Emmett, John, and William "Buddy" Turner; three sisters, Lois Beach, Helen Rees, and Reba Lyons.
Arrangements are being entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN 46928. Family and friends may visit the family at the Fairmount Chapel on Tuesday, June 24 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and an hour before the service on Wednesday, June 25 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Masonic services will be held at the conclusion of visiting hours on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. The celebration of life service will be at the Fairmount Chapel on Wednesday, June 25 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Rod Dennis, Jim Miller, and Herb Hughs officiating. Committal service with military rites and interment will be immediately following at Park Cemetery, Fairmount.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Friends Church in care of the funeral home.
