Charles E. Sexton

Charles E. Sexton, 88, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at his Fairmount home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 5, 1935, in Tateville, Kentucky, to the late Lester and Vira Sexton, Charles lived a full and vibrant life dedicated to his family and community.


After graduating from Sulphur Springs High School, Charles pursued a career as a tool and die maker at General Motors, where he worked diligently for 43 years. On June 10, 1955, he married Joan Groves, and she survives in Fairmount. He was a dedicated member of the UAW Local 977 and the CPC Sympathy Club, as well as a faithful attendee at Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, where his presence was cherished by all. He always enjoyed going to breakfast with his men's group.


Known for his love of the outdoors, Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening. He found great joy in spending time with his family, often sharing his passion for nature and creating lasting memories with his loved ones. Charles was a devoted husband to his beloved spouse, Joan, and a caring father to his daughters.


Charles is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joan Sexton; daughters, Cindy (Orlan) Barker, Greentown, Julie Strasser, Fairmount, and Pamela (Dr. Mark) Westfall, Marion; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Vira; brothers, Lyndle and Archie Sexton; sister, Lyda Linkhart; brother-in-law, Don; and son-in-law, Kirk Strasser.


Arrangements for Charles have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A visitation will be held at Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, 2960 East 38th Street, Marion, Indiana 46953, on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow with Rev. Brian Williams officiating. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Marion.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brookhaven Wesleyan Church Food Pantry. Online memories and condolences may be made shared at www.armeshuntfuneralhome.com.


Charles will be remembered for his kindness, his unwavering commitment to his family, and his joyful spirit that touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
