Charles D. 'Chuck' Holsinger

Charles D. ChuckHolsinger, 93, formerly of Upland and beloved father, brother, and grandfather, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, Rockford, IL. He was born on March 8, 1924 in Red Bluff, CA, to Paul and Elsie (Dingley)Holsinger. He is survived by his son Charles Ace (Gwen)Holsingerof Rockford, IL; daughter Janet (Gary)Friesenof Fort Wayne, IN; daughter Robyn (Steve)Ekstrandof Batavia, OH; son Daniel (Marilyn)HolsingerofStillmanValley, IL; and his sisters LauraMcNicolof Hayden, ID and Dorothy Schultz of Upland, IN. He has 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents and his brothers, Paul and DavidHolsinger. Chuck married Elisabeth BettyHermansenon August 4, 1949. He was honored to live his life serving the Lord as a missionary and was an ordained minister. He began his missionary career with OC International in the Philippines, but soon moved to Taiwan where he served as a teacher, coach, high school principal, and superintendent of Morrison Academy. He was lovingly referred to as Coachie by all his students. Chuck later served as Vice President of OC International and traveled extensively for the mission willing to fill any role as needed. Chuck was proud to serve his country in the United States Army during WWII, stationed in the Philippines (1942-1945). He was a decorated veteran, being awarded a Silver Star and a Bronze Star. Chuck graduated from Wheaton College in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. He later received his Masters of Biblical Literature in 1953 and was given an Honorary Doctorate in 1975. He moved to Upland from San Jose, CA and was an active member of the Upland Community Church.
