Carey L. Byrd, age 48 died on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, in Jonesboro, Indiana. Carey was born on November 2, 1973, in Marion, Indiana. She graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1992 and went on to graduate with her Bachelor Degree in Animal Science from Purdue and her Master's Degree from Ball State. She married Richard "Ricky" Byrd Jr. on July 25, 2003, and he preceded her in death on February 5, 2012. She loved her job as a Science Teacher at Marion High School and had recently retired. Carey loved being outdoors and taking her dogs for walks. She enjoyed camping, kayaking, fishing, and riding on Harley Davidson motorcycles. She had a bubbly personality, lighting up the room she was in. She especially loved spending time with her granddaughters. Carey is survived by her parents Douglas and Deborah (Goble) Dalton, her fiance Brad Thurman, step-children Jordan (Lexie) Byrd, Richard (Maddie) Byrd, Katelyn, (Eli) Byrd, Janna (Jason) Swain, Jimmy (Jennifer) Moore, and JJ Faulkner; five granddaughters Piper Powell, Bristol Byrd, Brinleigh Hawn, Heavyn Moore, and Ivy Swain; several cousins and her great-great-grandmother Sarah (Hillman) Dailey. Carey was preceded in death by her husband, Grandparents Larry and Shirley Gobel, and cousin Nicole Cothron. Services will be held at the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana on Sunday, May 1, 2022. A public visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Carey to the American Diabetes Association 5050 E 211th St, Noblesville, Indiana 46062.
