Billy Wimmer, 87, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at York Place in Marion, Indiana. Bill was born on October 2, 1930, to the late Wren and Mary India Wimmer in Marion, Indiana. Bill attended Jonesboro High School and was the first graduating class of Mississinewa in 1949. He then worked as a farmer with his brother for many years. He also was a branch manager of Swayzee Co-op and also manager of Grant County Farm Bureau Co-op. He was also a truck driver for IC King and Co-Alliance. Bill married Alberta Wilcox on May 21, 1950 in Wabash, Indiana, and she survives. Bill served in the Army from 1952 - 1954, also serving in Oson, Korea. He was in the 839 Engineering Battalion. He attended Bethel Friends for many years, holding many leadership positions and serving as a treasurer and trustee. He was also a member of the Fairmount American Legion Post #313 and the Teamsters Local Union #132. Bill enjoyed gardening and loved talking about farming. Bill is survived by his wife, Alberta, Marion, IN; two daughters, Janelle (Greg) Keith, Marion, IN, and Michelle (John Smith) McNees, Farmland, IN; two granddaughters, Erin (Jeff) Kriehn, Newberg, OR, and Heather (Zack) Laurence, Montpelier, IN; grandson-in-law, Gabe Canady, Greenfield, IN; and six great grandchildren, Sam Waters, Emma, Ethan, and Elijah Kriehn, and Eva and Wesson Laurence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wren and India Wimmer; sister, Gertrude Wimmer; two brothers, Chester and Robert Wimmer; granddaughter, Dawn Canady; and son-in-law, Jack McNees. There will be a visitation from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services College Park Chapel, 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, Indiana. A funeral service honoring Bills life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Bethel Friends Church, 1491 W. 600 S., Jonesboro, Indiana at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Doug Haag officiating. Burial will follow at Converse Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Rock Steady Boxing at Heritage Pointe 801 N. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Rathi Mahendran and Dr. Edmond Bendaly and the staff of the Cancer Care Center as well as Family LifeCare and Hospice for the loving care and support during the last months of Bills life.
