Betty May Gibson

January 1, 1935 — July 13, 2024

Betty May Gibson, 89 of Upland passed away Saturday, July 13th 2024 at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie IN.

She was born January 1st 1935 to the late David and Elsie May Buteau in Marion Indiana making her the first New Years baby born in Grant County that year. She spent most of her childhood years in Marion before making Upland her lifetime residency. To say she was a fighter and strong willed would be an understatement as she was the last surviving sibling of 15.

On October 31st 1954 she married Robert "Bob" Gibson with whom she had 4 beautiful children and lived 30 happy years before his passing in 1984. Then in 1990 through her cb radio where she was know as Delta Dawn she met her beloved "Tiny Man" Richard "Dick" Elliott who she then shared 33 years with until his passing just 7 months ago.

Betty May spent her years as homemaker, (chauffeur, chef, maid,teacher, and land lord just to name a few). She enjoyed babysitting, gardening, playing cards (especially fb solitaire). She enjoyed her coca-cola and watching her pacers basketball.

She is survived by son Daniel (partner Debra Townsend) Gibson of Hartford City, In, daughter Dawn Da-Ree Monahan of Montpelier, In, 8 grandchildren Robert, Kyra, Kendra, Blake, Kelsey, Brittany, Olivia, and Alex. 8 great grandchildren, and several friends and family she thought of as her own children.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, husband Bob, sons David and Douglas, and partner Dick, and 14 siblings.


The family is honoring Betty May’s wishes by not having services or a celebration of life.
