Berthala I. Maine, 81, of Marion died Thursday, May 13, 2021 at IU Ball Memorial. Berthala was born in Marion, Indiana on October 23, 1939, daughter of the late Howard D. Stevens and Marna E. Lowden. She graduated from Marion High School in 1980 after being in the class of 1956. She married Paul Maine Sr. on November 26, 1956. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1995. Berthala was community and service minded. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader, 50 year member of the Gas City Order of Eastern and past Worthy Matron, Guardian of Bethel #70, Council Member, Mothers Circle of Order of Demolay, Long time member of the Republican Party, delegate to State Convention many times, Precinct Committee of many years, honoree of Republican Womens Party, Member of Grant County Republican Womens Party, Outstanding Community Service Award from Kiwanis as Judge of Grant County in 1974 and 1987, honored with a resolution of the Indiana House of Representatives for Court Programs, Indiana Judicial Association Member, Devoe Chevrolet Best Attitude Award, member of American Business Woman Association and Woman of the Year, Chief Deputy of Center Township Assessor for 10 years, Certified Level One Appraiser, Worked in the Absentee Voters Office, Mill Township Justice of the Peace, Gas City, City Court Judge on two occasions, first Lady Judge in the state of Indiana, Member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Marion and Fairmount for many years, Indiana Assessors Association Member, former owner of Maine's Fine Dining, former owner of Speedy Products, and former Sunday School teacher at New Hope Baptist Church. Berthala is survived by four children; Paul and Karen Maine of Austin, Texas, Beth Maine and Jeff Moorman, North Webster, Scott and Kathy Maine, Marion, and Angela and Chris Cox, Marion; grandchildren, Brent and Aurora Doster, Anderson, Robert and Stacy Maine, Cedar Park, TX, Emil and Subrina Maine, Washington DC, Theresa and Jay Gibson, Marion, Scott Maine Jr, and Jessica Bramlette of Gas City, Tyler Maine, Marion, Paula and Drake Bell, Marion, Angelo and Heather Santitto of Epson, NH, Agata and Raul Rivera, Derby, NH, Jordan and Wesley Rinker, Marion , Anmarie Cox, Austin Cox and Isiah Cox, Kristen and Curtis Hazelwood, Jonesboro. Great-grandchildren, Addison, Asa, Ashlyn, Caden, Josiah Doster, Amelie and Arwen, Maine, Lena, Brodie, Braden, Aylala and Audrick Gibson, Jameson Bell, Geiissippe and Zackry Santitto, Raylee Zavala, Anthony Rivera, Dayson Bell,Rayla Hazelwood, Bowen Hazelwood, and Natalyia Maine; great-great grandchildren, Malini and Demir. Sister, Susan Scheidt; brother, Ted and Carolyn Stevens, Marion; sister-in-law, Vivian Rhode, WI and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Berthala was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Bruce E. Stevens, Rex H. Stevens, and Robert Stevens; granddaughter, Amber Nicole Doster; in-laws; Virginia Sanders Maine Harrington, John W. Maine, William Harrington, Earl and Pauline Maine, Charles and Edith Jones, Ed and Shirley Maine, Lorene and Frank Bright, George Dickerson, John R and Barbara Maine, Charles Albert, Ozetta and Gene Mathias; nephews, Jerry Dickerson, Michael Dickerson, and James Maine. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services where visitation will be on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 3-7 PM. There will be an Eastern Star Service at 7 PM. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, May 19, at 10 AM. with grandson Pastor Brent Doster officiating.
